What is the NICE guidance on the menopause? [with sign language]

Dr Louise Newson explains the NICE guidance on the menopause. #2 in a series of videos with sign language.

Video Transcript:

I am Dr. Louise Newson. I am GP and a Menopause Expert in West Midlands.

Unfortunately, there are lots of guidelines around and as a GP we are very busy, so it is very difficult to disseminate the guidelines and actually put them into practice. So…it is improving and people are reading them…they are using them but unfortunately not enough.  And I see so many patients who have been wrongly advised sometimes by their doctors.  And it is not because the doctors are not trying but they just don’t know or maybe haven’t read the guidelines and understand how safe some of the treatments are for the menopause and effective as well.

With the NICE Guidance, what they have done is that they have looked at all the available evidence and summarised it in one available document and there are some very good summary notes from these guidelines.  There are also some very important messages for patients.  There is a patient information area as well.  I think it is very important that women are empowered with this information so that they can talk to their doctors and get the information and the treatment that they need.
